Numbers and Variables
- Variables (or letters) are automatically displayed in a font that is much italicized than normal font used to display text.
- This gives it a more, classic mathematical look.
- By convention, numbers are automatically displayed in an upright font to distinguish them from variables with an italicized font.
Operators and Symbols
- We often use operators to describe relationships between variables.
- Some of these symbols that cannot be found in the keyboard now use special names using backslash commands
\{...}
- For example, typing the command
\times will output the multiplication symbol .
- As an another example, the command
\div will give us the division symbol .
- A smaller list of symbols can be found here.
