What is a Hazard?
Hazard
- It is anything that can hurt you or anyone else
Risk

It is the possibility that a hazard might harm someone.

Some examples of hazards include:
- slippery floors, disorganized cables running on the floor (physical hazard)
- computers and electronic equipment (electrical hazard)
- cleaning chemicals and solvents, compressed gas for dust removal (chemical hazard)
The 5s of Visual Management
Five S
- Also known as 5S.
- These are the five Japanese terms used to describe the five steps of visual arrangement.
Namely, they are: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, shitsuke.- Seiri (sort)
- Sort and put things in order.
- Remove and discard what is not needed.
- Keep what is needed instead.
- Seiton (straighten)
- Keep orderliness and proper arrangement.
- Place things in a way that they can be easily reached.
- “There is a place for everything, and everything must be in its place.”
- Seiso (shine)
- Keep workplace clean and polished..
- There must not be any trash or dirt in the workplace.
- Seiketsu (standardize)
- Maintain cleanliness after cleaning.
- Cleaning must be part of everyone’s work.
- Shitsuke (sustain)
- Maintain standards for commitment.
- Keep the facility safe, efficient and in order in any day of the year.
