Adaptation
- It is the change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment.
- It can also refer to the action of process of adapting or the process of changing in order to suit in different conditions.
- It enhances the fitness of survival of everyone
- For an organism to adapt, it must be physically fit and viable at all stages of development for it to be able to survive.
Types of Adaptation
- Structural: physical features of the organism
- Example: penguin blubber to protect itself from freezing temperatures.
- Behavioral: acquired/inherited/learned behavior
- Example: bears hibernate to preserve energy in cold temperatures.
- Physiological: permits organisms to perform special functions
- Example: secreting venom, slime, and other special abilities
